December 2024 Meetup - A Christian doctrine of technology adoption.
We take technology for granted today. But what does "technology" actually describe? Does the Bible present God's decree about technology and our engagement with it? Is all technological change progress?
Topic: A Christian doctrine of technology adoption.
This month, we're discussing technology in its several forms and how Christians are to engage with technology. We want to understand:
- is shunning technology a Godly approach to the dominion mandate,
- should we "adopt then discern" or "discern then adopt"
- and are there technologies that are inherently sinful?
Discussion aids
Let's use two videos to start our engagement with this topic.
- Technology as wealth
Pastor Doug Wilson explains the concepts he has expressed in his book "Ploductivity," in which he makes a case for technology as a form of wealth. Thus, the Bible opens up our application of principles since the Scriptures speak at length about wealth, responsibility, and authority.
- Technology hacking purposefully in community; don't be a Luddite.
Tim interviews secular futurist Kevin Kelly about many topics, but at about minute 00:21:00 (linked below), Kelly discusses what he's learned about technology from the Amish.
