September 2024 Meetup
Ancient ideas are resurfacing in our modern milieu from our gnostic unconsciousness. Strange Christian heresies flow from Marxist corners, pressing in on the last vestiges of old Christendom. There's general angst in the air driving a shift in conservative Christian society from openness toward aggressive filtering and reactive separation based on non-Gospel-centered thinking.
Topic: Discernment in an age of new media
In this month's meetup, our topic is divided into two parts centered around how we should communicate in the world.
"When is strong language and symbolism appropriate in Christian interactions with the non-Christian world?"
and secondarily,
"How do we differentiate from the world in a Gospel-aligned way?"
Discussion aids
We'll use two example videos that have already generated quite a bit of feedback for their authors on the social platforms they were published. I encourage meetup attendees to watch the videos before looking at those comments and form an initial opinion of their own. Only then review the platform comments if you are so interested.
1. New Saint Andrews College recruitment advert
Concepts and components to consider:
- The Shackelton advertisement. (Shackelton expedition)
- Jonny Cash, the man in black.
- Doug & Freinds response video.
2. White-centered nationalism over Christian culture and Gospel
Concepts and components to consider:
- The erosion of traditional Christian values appears to have accelerated, especially with the influx of illegal immigration over the last few years. Due to this, we're starting to see Christians adopting phrases and symbolism that formerly were only used among those whose focus was racial purity.
- The video above follows a popular narrative form among some circles. A montage of positive societal interactions highlighting white people is juxtaposed against non-whites acting in societally destabilizing activities. This example leans in hard on this theme culminating in a video of the lighting of the Olympic Torch during the Summer 1936 games hosted by Germany's Nazi regime.
- Following the cultural thread using the phrase, "By God, we'll have a home again," we're led to the idea of Mannerbund—a concept originating out of Paganism and later co-opted by some Nazis. Proponents of modern Mannerbund tend to write about Christianity negatively, desiring to rebuild society from the ground up and rightly viewing Christianity as a fundamental context that lead to the modern world and so to be done away with.
- By God, we'll have a Home Again - MannerBund - For Blood & Soil
- “God, I’m with a heathen.” The Rebirth of the Männerbund in Brian De Palma’s The Untouchables
- Male Mysteries and the Secret of the Mannerbund by Wulf Grimsson
